What is a Supplement Facts label?

A Supplement Facts label is the FDA-required nutrition panel for dietary supplements — including vitamins, minerals, amino acids, herbs, and botanicals. It uses the heading "Supplement Facts" (not "Nutrition Facts") and lists each ingredient with its amount per serving and % Daily Value where established. It is governed by FDA 21 CFR 101.36.

What is the difference between Supplement Facts and Nutrition Facts?

Nutrition Facts panels are required for conventional foods. Supplement Facts panels are required for dietary supplements (as defined by DSHEA). The formats differ in heading, mandatory nutrients listed, and how ingredients without an established Daily Value are handled. Which supplements require a Supplement Facts panel?

Under the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act (DSHEA), any product marketed as a dietary supplement in the US requires a Supplement Facts panel. This includes: vitamins and minerals, protein powders, amino acids, herbal products, probiotics, pre-workout supplements, meal replacement products sold as supplements, and sports nutrition products.

Can I list proprietary blends on the Supplement Facts label?

Yes. You can list a proprietary blend by name with the total weight of the blend per serving. Individual ingredient amounts within the blend can be listed but are not always required. NutriCalcPro supports both individual ingredient disclosure and proprietary blend listing.

What file format do packaging printers need for supplement labels?

Most commercial packaging printers require vector files — typically SVG or AI (Adobe Illustrator). NutriCalcPro exports SVG files on the Expert plan, which are compatible with most commercial printing workflows. PDF and PNG are also available on the Maker plan.

Can I generate supplement labels for international markets?

The Supplement Facts format is specific to the US FDA. For EU and UK markets, dietary supplements use a different panel format. NutriCalcPro currently generates the US FDA Supplement Facts format. For EU/UK supplement label requirements, contact support.
